Honda 'CR-Z' Hybrid Car Focuses on Driving Performance
Oct 25, 2007 18:20
Keisuke Ogawa, Nikkei Automotive Technology
The body measures 4,080 (l) x 1,780 (w) x 1,280mm (h), and the wheelbase is 2,500mm. To ensure handling and responsiveness, Honda kept the vehicle compact. The company has yet to reveal specifications of the hybrid system and the powertrain including the engine capacity.
Ok, here are some facts:
Body measures 4,080 (l) x 1,780 (w) x 1,280mm (h), and the wheelbase is 2,500mm.
CR-Z converts to
4,080 millimeter = 160.6" Length
1,780 millimeter = 70.1" Width
1,280 millimeter = 50.4" Height
2,500 millimeter = 98.4" Wheelbase

CRX Gen 2 specs • CR-Z is compared to the CRX
148.5" Length • +12.1" or 8% longer
65.9" Width • +4.2" or 6% wider
50.1" Height • -0.3 or 0.5% higher
90.6" Wheelbase • +7.8" or 7% longer
So it longer and wider and a tad shorter, ain't nothing wrong with that!

And some other comparisions

As I stood in my garage last night looking at the CRX-SiR and the S2000, I realized I need to compare the CR-Z dimensions to the S2000.

S2000 • CR-Z is compared to S2000
162.2" Length • -1.6"
68.9" Width • +1.2"
50.6" Height • -0.2"
94.5" Wheelbase • +3.9"

Wow, that's a decent amount wider, a bit shorter and the same height as our S, but look at that wheelbase, the CR-Z is a whopping 4" longer. Very interesting, this thing has the potential to handle really well for a "small" car. Ok, now I'm curious about the current Civic Si.

Civic 2-door • CR-Z is compared to Civic 2-door
174.8" Length • -14.2"
68.9" Width • +1.2"
53.5" Height • -3.1"
104.3" Wheelbase • -5.9"

Civic Type R • CR-Z is compared to Civic Type R
178.7" Length • -18.1"
69.6" Width • +0.5"
56.3" Height • -5.9"
106.3 "Wheelbase • -7.9"

Interesting, the current Civic 2-door Si is really a decent amount bigger in most dimensions than the CR-Z, so I guess it really is in Honda's mind a small car.

What's really cool to me is the CR-Z's width. It's 1.2" wider than our S and the Civic 2-door, and it's a huge 4.2" wider than my '90 CRX-Si.

And it still blows me away the CR-Z is 4" wider than Gen 2 CRX and even 1.2" wider than the S, holy crap, talk about a wide stance!
So we are on the same page check this out...

'07 Accord 2-door • CR-Z is compared to last gen Accord 2-door
187.6" Length • -27" shorter
71.3" Width • -1.2" narrower
55.7" Height • -5.3" shorter
105.1" Wheelbase • -6.7" shorter

I mean holy crap more than 2 f'ing feet shorter than the Accord yet only about 1 inch narrower.

They could steal the old Pontiac ad line from back in the '60's-'70's - The Wide Track.

Short
Wide
Low

is a beautiful thing.

I can't think of a single SWL car that is ugly.

SWL => sport compact car

I did a little bit of research to H. The CR-Z concept is 5inches longer than the MINI Cooper. The CR-Z is 4inches wider than the Cooper. The CR-Z is also 1.2feet longer. Wow. I'm curious as to what dimensions the production form will retain.

I spent a few minutes and put this together.
I have done this to scale, G1 was about 145" long, G2 was about 150" long and CR-Z is about 161" long.
I drew the red lines to show how each new incarnation has reduced the drop from the roof to the top of the hatch.
For me this really shows why I think CRX when I see the CR-Z.

What I like best is the hight difference and the side window lines. I am hoping that those stay with the exreme angles that they have on the concept and they dont just cut them straight across like most cars. The upsweep of the doors make the body shape and it would be a shame to loose that.

TOTALLY agree Hargert!!!
The side window shapes is a huge part of this concept's hotness.
I share your concern too, I fear that high window line will come down so shorter people can see outside, because, we have to remember, this thing will have 2-back seats unlike the CRX.
