I drove a Murano for almost 2-weeks that had a CVT, and as nice as the vehicle was, I can't remember the last time I was that happy to give up a ride. Having lived with it for a while I will say, there is indeed a place for SVT's in this world, but not in my driveway. BTW- the best place for a CVT would be in a limo, the smoothness under all conditions is just unbelievable.

FYI
I just checked the UK Honda sight as they have more news about the Insight than the USA Honda sight, probably because they are getting it sooner...

The UK site lists three models- SE, ES, ES-T, and for all three they list this- 1.3 IMA (Petrol Hybrid) CVT, under- available in the following engine and transmission combination(s).

So although it sort of looks like SVT only on the Insight, which I believe is a good indication of what we might get, the fact that they are saying "available in the following combination(s)" and then only lists one combo, makes me wonder if that is just a web copy blunder, or if more combos are coming...

Only time will tell, and I'm sooooooooooo tired of waiting...

I'm not settling for semiauto just because.

I trust honda will not do something stupid like just stick the insight tranny in the crz and call it a day.

I'd much prefer a 5-7 speed manual tranny over any auto anyday. MT is NOT dying. There are plenty of new affordable cars that still come in MT.
Uh-oh! I'd be prepared man. The chances of a MT are pretty slim. I'm VERY SURE Honda wouldnt stick the engine tranny in it as well. For as long as this car is taking, its going to be a bit special. I hope you'd at least give it a drive! Does anybody know if the Civic and Accord share any motors? How about the element and Civic/Accord?

Pic below is from the Honda OSM - Open Study Model
Look really careful behind the steering wheel.
See the little + just below the wiper stalk?
See the little just below the lights stalk?
Paddle shifters baby.
So we know Honda has been thinking about it...

Well given the Insight has a option with padel shifters there is no way that Honda will not have them on the CRZ on at least one version of it. I would agree that the odds of MT are low at best. Also I will agree that the SVT does feel wierd to drive but I do think that is just because we are condioned to expect being able to feel when a car shifts.

I heard vw's dsg tranny is a beautiful thing. If the crz MUST have semiauto it better be as good or better.

But it is still NOT MT and I don't want to own one unless I absolutely have to.

the old insight and old civic hybrids had manual so it can be done.

I have heard honda is considering having a regular gasoline motor as an option for the crz in Europe. That MUST come in MT.

A DSG would really bump up the price on this. I'm expecting the entry admission to come in no higher than the Civic Si's 22k. In typical Honda fashion their wouldnt be much options.

Very cool, I did not know this.
Sounds then like I'll be all set, I can handle an auto tranny or CVT as long as I have some paddles.
Sure, I would prefer a 6-speed manual, but for me the #1 Priority is to own this body.

Autoblog Green did report that the EX version is supposed to have them {paddle shifters}. Per ABG - "The EX model comes equipped with paddle shifters on the back side of the steering wheel allowing you to select from seven pre-set gear ratios. The shifts were surprisingly quick when the paddles were tapped. With the shifter in D, the left paddle gives a downshift for passing maneuvers if needed and then returns to automatic control after the car is cruising again. In Sport mode the transmission holds the selected gear ratio until another ratio is selected, right up to red line."

ABG also reports that you sit lower to the ground in the Insight than in the fit, and that shifiting the transmission from D to S and turning off ECON mode, makes the car respond more aggressively. The full review is at the link below.

Your prayers are answered Doug.
I suspect then we will get a 7-speed gearbox!!!
