Default Manual vs CVT related to performance mods

If I decide on buying a CR-Z and had to decide with stick vs. CVT. I know the CVT is rated higher MPG but wondered if that really ends up making a difference. Also, if in the future, I decide to turbo it or who knows what, would a CVT be able to handle more power? I know I could always get a better clutch but wasn't sure which transmission could handle extra power better.

A real sports car is manual transmission. Unless you are talking about super cars, which the CRZ is NOT.

Sorry but I would not put the CRZ in the sports car catagory as it stands right now. Given the way the IMA systems work unless you are going to do a gut and replace the powertrain slapping turbos or other mods on this car is going to have a limited effect at best. On the flip side Honda is usually engineered to withstand a fair bit more then the car can put out stock so if you could boost the power the trany should be able to handle it. Until someone does it or at least has access to the fault specs we are all guessing.

Yeah, but the CR-Z is not even close to being a sports car. "sporty" and "sport" are both different creatures.....

I have a CVT in my car and I can tell you it is for cruising and not for performance. However you can hall butt on the freeway at only 2000 RPM's. We have discussed performance mods and all seem to agree its not a good idea.

We used to say automatic versions of sporty/sports cars are for girls (who want to drive a sport car for all the wrong reasons).
